About the DZTPS
The Association of Technical and Scientific Translators of Slovenia (DZTPS) was established in 1960 as the first association of technical translators, emphasising the importance of professional translation and seeking to raise the standing of the profession. DZTPS members include professional translators and court interpreters – both self-employed and those employed by various companies and institutions – who hold appropriate professional qualifications and have at least three years of translation experience.
Since its establishment, the DZTPS’s main activity has been the provision of professional training for its members, non-members and students. To this end, the Association organises well-attended language and general legal seminars and webinars rich in legal content, which count as recognised training for court interpreters over a five-year period. In addition to professional events, the DZTPS also organises free members’ events with topical and engaging content that reflect the interests of language professionals. Given today’s fragmented translation landscape, the Association additionally hosts informal gatherings at its community office, where members can exchange ideas, good practices and concerns, and build collegial connections.
The DZTPS has been a full member of the International Federation of Translators (FIT) since 1993 and also cooperates with related associations to represent common interests, strengthen collaboration and strive for better regulation of the status of language professions.
The Association publishes recommended rates for professional translation, which vary according to translation direction, text complexity and urgency. The DZTPS website provides publicly accessible glossaries created by its members, as well as online dictionaries in development, to which all members are invited to contribute. Users and clients can also search for translators and interpreters in the member directory on the DZTPS website, filtering by language combinations, areas of expertise and holders of the DZTPS translator certificate, helping them find the right professional for a particular translation task.
As a professional association, the DZTPS represents the interests of court interpreters through their representatives on the Professional Council of Court Experts, Court Appraisers and Court Interpreters, as well as within its own permanent professional body. Through these roles, the DZTPS maintains direct contact with the Ministry of Justice and contributes proposals in the drafting and adoption of legislation governing court interpreting.
