Why become a member?

Members of the Association of Scientific and Technical Translators of Slovenia (DZTPS) must meet high standards of professionalism and appropriate professional qualifications. DZTPS membership therefore serves as a confirmation of their competence in translating, proofreading and interpreting specialised texts. In today’s unregulated language services market, such a reference can be an important indicator of professionalism.

Translation work is often solitary. After completing their studies, translators typically go their own way and work independently, outside larger organisations. Membership in a professional association therefore offers an excellent opportunity for professional networking and consultation, as well as informal socialising with colleagues who understand the nature of translation work and the challenges involved.

Members can also contribute significantly to the Association’s activities. Representatives of the Members Board welcome suggestions and requests from individual members and, after due consideration, often implement them at the Association level. Even members who do not sit on the Association’s bodies may represent the DZTPS at various events, panel discussions, broadcasts or projects, helping to raise the visibility of both the translation profession and the Association itself, while at the same time strengthening their own professional presence and integration into the translation community.

How to become a member

If you would like to become a DZTPS member, do not hesitate to apply. First, send a brief email explaining why you wish to join the DZTPS and attach:
  • Proof of formal qualifications;
  • Evidence of professional competence as a translator* or evidence of previous translation experience (court interpreters must submit a copy of the appointment decision issued by the Ministry of Justice);
  • A copy of your identity document.
Send all documents by email to info@dztps.si. Within a few days you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of your application and further instructions.

If the Members Board finds that you meet the membership criteria, you will receive an invitation to complete a Statement on the Processing of Personal Data and questionnaire for the register of DZTPS members. Both forms must be signed and scanned and emailed back to the DZTPS.

You will be notified of your admission to membership within 30 days of the receipt of your complete application. You will then be invited to pay the membership fee for the current year and, upon arrangement, informed about opportunities for active involvement in the Association’s activities.
Welcome!

*Testing professional competence of translators

Applicants who do not meet the required language qualifications must submit a translation and its source text for each language combination in which they wish to be registered, comprising 10 to 15 standard pages.

If the membership admissions committee so decides, applicants must also take a translation proficiency test, consisting of translating one page of a professional text (in a field of their choice) for each language combination. The test generally takes place on the Association’s premises and lasts one hour per language combination. After the test is completed, the admissions committee submits its opinion to the DZTPS Members Board.
